Magic: The Gathering | Marvel: Darkhold Destiny releases on 9 April 2027. Wizards of the Coast describes it as a brand-new, dimension-hopping story set in the Marvel Universe, centred on the Darkhold, a sealed book of dark magic.

What is being released

The release includes the main set, Commander decks and Scene Boxes, with Wizards adding that there is more to come. A tie-in Marvel Comics story by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly is due digitally in February 2027 and in print in April 2027, and it introduces the origin of a brand-new character.

Wizards has shown Hela, Mistress of Darkness, Magik (Illyana Rasputin), The Darkhold itself, Rise from the Nether and a Scene card featuring Gargantos, the Endbringer.

Why this release is significant

Darkhold Destiny is significant because it tells an original story rather than retelling a film or comic. That gives Magic players and Marvel readers something genuinely new, and the companion comic means the story extends beyond the cards. Wizards also confirms new Booster Fun treatments and refined versions of favourite treatments from recent releases.

Competitive gameplay impact

Wizards has not yet revealed the mechanics. Commander players are the clearest early winners, with dedicated Commander decks confirmed. We will add competitive notes once the full card gallery is published.

Collector value and exclusivity

New Booster Fun treatments, Scene Boxes and characters such as Hela and Magik give collectors plenty to chase, and the Scene card format turns a run of cards into one connected illustration.

Why players should care

If you love Marvel and have never played Magic, this is an easy way in: recognisable characters, an original story and Commander decks you can play straight out of the box. If you already play Magic, it is a fresh crossover with its own story rather than a reprint of something you have seen.

Dates and product details come from the official publisher at the time of writing and can differ by region. Confirm local availability with your game store.
