Friday, August 2nd will see the release of the 11th instalment in the Sun & Moon story arc. Titled Unified Minds, and with a card list of 236 its one of the biggest Pokémon expansions to be released.
The Sun & Moon Tag Team release from February of this year introduced us to the brand-new mechanic of TAG TEAM Pokémon-GX. These exciting cards featured a duo of Pokemon who combine their abilities into a single powerful card that includes an often game-winning ability and attack. The aptly titles Unified Minds set expands the TAG TEAM experience by introducing eight new pairings:
Umbreon & Darkrai-GX, Mewtwo & Mew-GX, Rowlet & Alolan Exeggutor-GX, Garchomp & Giratina-GX, Mega Sableye & Tyranitar-GX, Slowpoke & Psyduck-GX, Espeon & Deoxys-GX, and Raichu & Alolan Raichu-GX.
Raichu & Alolan Raichu-GX is sure to offer a boost to Lightning Decks, and Garchomp & Giratina-GX is an impressive card that any player would be happy to open in a booster. The unexpected yet makes-perfect-sense combo of Slowpoke & Psyduck-GX is waiting for someone to find it a home, considering its damage output and low-cost attack. The star of the TAG TEAM cards and likely the best card in the whole set, is Mewtwo & Mew-GX who pairs perfectly with another card from the set, Jirachi-GX since it cancels out Psychic-type Weakness and helps to search for Energy Cards.
Unified Minds also introduces some cool Trainer and Support cards. Reset Stamp is a very powerful effect the later the game goes, and GX based strategies will appreciate the inclusion of Cherish Ball and who doesn’t like a good healing effect like Great Potion? Misty’s Favour is a powerful tutor in being able to search up three other Support cards.
For players who are new to the game and who want to get started with a ready-to-play product, then the Theme Decks are your best choice. Unified Minds will feature two pre-constructed decks: Soaring Storm, a Ligthning, Colourless and Dragon-type deck with Dragonite as the main Pokémon and Laser Focus featuring Necrozma.
