Catan Nationals Tournament
Are you the king of Catan in your gaming group? Then this year is your time to shine and test your skills against the best Catan players in South Africa.
June 2022 sees the kick-off to multiple Catan events around the country, culminating in the South African National Championship, taking place in August 2022, from where the South African National Champ will have the opportunity to represent our country in the Catan World Championships taking place in Malta, in November 2022.
New to Catan? Unsure if you are ready to go up against the best in the country? Then come and join one of the Catan feeder events taking place at various FLGS during June and July and get a taste for competitive Catan play.
If you feel you are ready for the big leagues then you might consider jumping straight into one of the regional events hosted over June and July in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. Winners from these events will automatically earn a top 8 seat at the South African National Championship.
Didn’t take top spot in a regionals? No need to worry, the South African National Championship is making it’s way to the Mother City this year. The National event will be hosted at the first ever Sword Con 2022 and will be open to anyone who wants to fight their way to a top spot and play for the honour of being crowned the South African Champion.

- Johannesburg: The Nexus, Timeless Boardgames, The Geek Home, JIX Hobbies (11th June)
- Cape Town: Durbanville Games, The Warren, FLGS Knysna (17th July)
Regionals: July
- Cape Town: Sword and Board – August 6th
- Johannesburg: Comic Warehouse – July 9th
- Durban: Unseen Shoppe – July 9th
National
- Sword Con Cape Town – 20 August
No matter where you jump into the road to Nationals, there will be great prizes to be won throughout. The South African National Champion will also be flown to Malta to represent South Africa and prove that our Catan players rank amongst the best in the world.

- Judges decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- Prizes are not transferable and not redeemable for cash.
- The winner of the South African National Championship will need to confirm their availability to travel to the Catan World Championship by 26-08-2022. If the winner of this event is unavailable the opportunity to travel to the World Championship will be offered to the event runner up.
- Please take note that travel to Malta does require a passport and visa. The involved costs and obtaining the correct travel documents are the responsibility of the National Champion winner. - Please note that Covid restrictions might require additional documentation and/or procedures to be followed during travel and will be the National Champions responsibility to adhere to.
- Solarpop Distribution (Pty) Ltd and Unplug Yourself will not be held liable for any costs incurred or alternative arrangements needing to be made, should any date changes or cancellations of the Catan World Championship event take place.
- Solarpop Distribution (Pty) Ltd and Unplug Yourself will not be held liable for any damage or loss suffered during the National Champions participation in the Catan World Championship event.
